Tito's Jams

My name is Tracy MacLauchlan and I am an animator with a love for drawing and character art. I animate character properties and create heartfelt e-cards for a social expression company by day and work on my animated series project, The Taffetas, by night. This is my informal art blog where I post my work, sketches, doodles, thoughts, and reblogs.

My half of an art trade with my friend Reedgauthier.tumblr.com, of his character Jask. I look forward to the comic someday!

This was (supposed to be) just a sketch trade but I ended up spending more time on it than I thought I would, just because it was fun ^^. I’m glad, too, considering his piece for me! (aaah! <3)

also, I took some small artistic liberties on the design (like gloves, unpuffy sleeves), I hope that’s okay, Reed!

AAAAAH! THIS IS BEYOND EPIC! That pose is soooo dynamic! The shading is gorgeous! You did a FANTASTIC job Tracy!

I’m glad you like it, thank you!! It’s really your character and story that inspired me. Jask’s new design is AWESOME, and I remember liking the ideas you had in mind for him. I hope you make his comic one day!

(Also, I’m reblogging the full thing for the day crowd. Thanks for understanding, everyone!)

LAYOUT UPDATE

Hello tumblr followers!

How do you like our new layout? We’re pretty excited about it. Our old look just wasn’t “Taffetas” enough!

We updated the look of our tumblr with a customized template and added information about our project for newcomers. There is also a mobile version of this microblog that should work nicely on your smart phones.

Let us know if you find any bugs or broken links, and don’t be too shy to talk to us here! We also reblog fanwork, so be sure to tag your Taffetas-related art as #veil-and-gemini or #The Taffetas!

I know I have some new followers lately and just in case you guys are wondering what I keep drawing/posting, it’s pretty much all related this project, so give the updated tumblr a glance or check out our Officlal Production Blog for more details!

Some studies I did for about an hour because hands are my favorite things to draw! The last three poses are referenced from the “Handy” app for iphone which I highly recommend.

I’m not tired so I sketched two outfits I wore in the last two weeks, from memory. This year I discovered I really like creating outfits for myself and I’ve slowly collected an entirely new wardrobe, which I am very fond of. This personal discovery started with Taffetas when I realized the research I do for my character’s clothes can apply to me, too. Prior, I was a shirt-and-jeans kind of girl (Which is totally OK, too).

The first one is 1970s Floridian Used Car Salesman. It is a Summer outfit (the fabrics are very light). The look is really out-of-place on a cloudy day or at work, but very chic when worn while walking around town in bright, sunny weather (preferably eating mint chocolate-chip ice cream). In real life, despite the lipstick, the outfit is fairly androgynous on me, which I love. The zaniness can be brought down a notch with neutral-colored pants and combed hair.

The second one is classy casual which is great for being outside in spring or summer but can be dressed up for work with a cardigan (pref. mustard yellow), and can be worn on cold days with said cardigan + purple tights. I can exchange the orange flats (which are more summery and add a touch of quirkiness) with gold-tipped white flats to complete a simple, classy look. It looks great with big sunglasses. I often want to add a fake beauty mark on my cheek while wearing this outfit, as well!

His expression looks like he’s thinking “I don’t know what I want to wear today…” So he just sits there in his briefs in his indecision.

hahahaha. Yes. Dear God, Reed you are my favorite person.

When drawing this, I thought that maybe all his clothes are horribly wrinkled and covered in Gemini’s mother’s hair (Gem’s mom is a cat) and his iron is broken and he’s out of lint rollers so he’s just like

“Wellp. Guess I can’t go to work today. Or anywhere.”

And so he lays there stuck in this limbo of has-to-go-outside-to-get-iron-and-lint-roller but can’t-go-outside-because-clothes-are-wrinkled-and-hairy.

I’ve been working on Veil in my sketchbook all week, and today I whipped up this study. I doubt it will make it to the pitch book, but I like it regardless.

Could you guys suggest some ideas (silly or serious) I could draw for his outfit? I’d like the practice.

(Feel free to draw your own ideas over this sketch if you’re so inclined, too, but I’ll draw the text suggestions that I like! : D )

Small concepts I did yesterday morning for a volunteer project I’m a part of. Just trying to come up with some ideas. I decided to go with a completely different idea today though!

Finalizing Elena was a lot of fun. I like her transparent fish eyelids.
The last picture below is just showing the vector paths it took to finish her - for anyone interested!

Yesenia vectored my Elena drawings for our pitch book! I’m always amazed at how polished she makes our art!

Vectoring is no easy feat at all and a lot of hours are put into it. Just look at those paths! Also the clear-eyelid thing was her idea, it’s so gross and creepy!
